Bridge repair project rescheduled for Wednesday

A bridge repair project over I-70 originally supposed to start Monday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 2, weather permitting.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, northbound and southbound 134th Street from Kansas Avenue to Riverview Avenue will be closed to all traffic for bridge construction work from 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, through 6 p.m. Friday, April 4, and again from 8 a.m. Monday, April 7, through 6 p.m. Friday, April 11.

The road will be closed 24/7, according to KDOT.

Drivers are asked to find alternate routes during the roadway closure. Also , they are asked to slow down around the construction area.

Bridge repair project canceled

The scheduled closure today of 134th Street from Kansas Avenue to Riverview Avenue for a bridge repair project has been canceled, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

There was no rescheduled date announced yet for this project.

Weather today is predicted to be windy with a chance of more storms, and there is a chance of storms in Wednesday and Thursday’s forecast.

One reported dead after semi hits I-70 toll plaza

A fatal accident was reported at the toll plaza on Interstate 70 in Leavenworth County.

According to reports, a semi struck the westbound entry to the toll plaza at 2:57 a.m. March 29, causing extensive damage and one death from the semi. Another person was critically injured.

A Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report stated that the driver of the semi, Sergiy Angelchev, 30, of Aurora, Colo., died in the accident.

A passenger in the semi, a 25-year-old man from Aurora, Colo., was injured and was taken to the hospital.

The toll booths, about 10 miles west of Bonner Springs, were not occupied at the time.
