Driver falls asleep, crashes on I-435

A driver was injured and taken to the hospital after falling asleep on southbound I-435 near Kansas Avenue on April 6.

The 37-year-old Shawnee, Kan., resident was southbound on I-435 in a Lexus about 1:29 p.m. when she fell asleep, drifted onto an outside shoulder and hit the guard rail, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s crash log.

She was injured and taken to a hospital. A 6-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle had a possible injury and was taken to a hospital, according to the report.

One hospitalized after rollover accident on I-70

A rollover accident sent one person to the hospital in the early morning hours Saturday.

A Ford Expedition was westbound on I-70 near South 10th Street about 12:45 a.m. when the driver lost control, scraped against the barrier wall, overcorrected and rolled, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report.

After rolling once, the Expedition came to rest on its wheels, the report stated.

The driver, a 21-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man, was not injured. A passenger in the vehicle, a 16-year-old Kansas City, Kan., youth, was injured and taken to the hospital.

According to the trooper’s report, the driver was wearing a seat belt, while the passenger was not.

Car goes airborne off I-70

A car went airborne on I-70 near 18th Street Expressway on Thursday, hitting a tree and landing upright, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s accident report.

The Nissan Versa was westbound on I-70 about 9:25 p.m. April 3 when the driver took evasive action to avoid another vehicle and lost control, the report stated.

The car slid into the north ditch, hit a rock wall, then went airborne and hit a tree, coming to rest upright, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old Lenexa, Kan., woman, was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report.

A passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Kansas City, Mo., also was injured and taken to a hospital.
