The Kansas City T-Bones have signed Pat Doyle and T.J. Mittelstaedt to contracts for the 2014 season.

Doyle, 25, is a 6-foot-2 and 230-pound  right-handed pitcher from St. Louis, Mo. Splitting time between the Cincinnati Reds’ single-A and double-A teams in 2013, Doyle was 4-1 with 11 saves, 70 strikeouts, 18 walks and a 3.41 ERA in 52 appearances (74 innings).
Cincinnati selected Doyle in the 24th round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft out of Missouri State University. He reached triple-A with the Reds in 2011. In three professional seasons, Doyle is 24-10 with 17 saves, 278 strikeouts, 84 walks, and a 4.30 ERA.

“Doyle attacks the strike zone with all of his pitches and can start or even close for us this season,” said T-Bones manager John Massarelli.

Mittelstaedt, 26, is a 5-foot-10 and 185-pound utility player from Mission Viejo, Calif. The Milwaukee Brewers selected Mittelstaedt in the 44th round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft out of Long Beach State. Last season, splitting time between single-A and double-A, Mittelstaedt batted .199 with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 35 RBIs in 97 games.
In four professional seasons, Mittelstaedt is a .250 hitter with 307 hits, 62 doubles, 38 homers and 156 RBIs. Playing mainly four positions — left field, right field, third base and second base — in the Milwaukee system, Mittelstaedt has a .963 career fielding percentage.

“T.J. is a very versatile player who can play a lot of different positions,” Massarelli said. “He plays the game hard and he plays the game right.”

The T-Bones open the 2014 regular season at home on May 15 against Lincoln.

The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the signings of pitchers Daniel Barone and Zach Fowler for the 2014 season.
Barone, 30, is a 6-foot-2 and 185-pound right-hander from Hollister, Calif. The Florida Marlins selected Barone in the 11th round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft out of Sonoma State University.

After spending the better part of four seasons in the Marlins’ minor-league system, Barone appeared in 16 games at the major-league level in August and September of 2007. During that span he went 1-3 with a 5.71 ERA in 41 innings. Barone, who has not pitched professionally since 2009, is 29-30 with three saves and a 4.25 ERA in six minor-league seasons, in the Florida and Oakland systems.

“Danny should be a top-of-the-rotation starter for us who’ll give us a chance to win whenever he’s out there,” said T-Bones manager John Massarelli.

Fowler, 25, is 6-foot-4 and 205-pound left-hander from Texarkana, Texas. After playing collegiately at Texas Tech, the Baltimore Orioles selected Fowler in the 34th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft. Fowler, who reached triple-A in 2012, is 7-6 with six saves, 132 strikeouts, 53 walks and a 2.94 ERA in three professional seasons.

“Zach should be a nice addition to our bullpen,” Massarelli said.

Additionally, the T-Bones placed pitcher Ethan Cole on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. Cole went 0-8 with one save and a 6.30 ERA in 39 games for Kansas City in 2013.

The T-Bones open the 2014 regular season at home in Kansas City, Kan., on May 15 against Lincoln.

The Kansas City T-Bones have signed right-handed pitcher Bobby Shore to a contract for the 2014 season.

Shore, 25 (01-27-89), a native of Oceanside, Calif., who is 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, spent the last three seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization.

In 2013, he went 6-5 with a 5.42 ERA in 34 appearances, including 11 starts, for High Desert, Seattle’s high-A club. In 81 1/3 innings, Shore struck out 63 and walked 31. He is 10-9 with a 3.72 ERA, 155 strikeouts and 57 walks in 63 professional appearances.

“Bobby is a strike thrower, who’ll compete for one of the starting rotation spots,” said manager John Massarelli.

Seattle selected Shore in the 41st round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. At single-A Clinton of the Midwest League in 2012, Shore went 4-3 with a 1.94 ERA, 69 strikeouts and 19 walks.

Additionally, the T-Bones have acquired the reversionary rights to right-handed pitcher Bradley Blanks from Laredo in exchange for infielder Devin Goodwin.

In 2013, Blanks went 5-1 with three saves and a 1.38 ERA in 27 appearances for Laredo. He has spent time in the Milwaukee and Philadelphia organizations, in addition to three independent-league teams, in five professional seasons.
