T-Bones sign outfielder from Rockies farm team

The Kansas City T-Bones have signed outfielder Dillion Thomas for the 2018 season.

Dillion Thomas joins the T-Bones after spending seven seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization, reaching AAA in 2017. Thomas was the Rockies 4th round pick in the 2011 MLB draft out of Westbury Christian School in Houston, Texas.

Thomas made his pro debut in 2011 at rookie level Casper in the Pioneer League, playing in 15 games and going 19-for-58 for a .328 average. He would jump to short season A in the Northwest League with Tri-City in 2012, playing in 24 games and hitting .214 with four RBI.

The corner outfielders first full season at the pro level was in 2013 at Asheville in the South Atlantic League. In 90 games he hit three homers with 36 RBI for the Tourist. In 2014 Thomas began the season at Tri-City playing 18 games and hitting .209. In July he was moved up to Asheville where he hit .317 in 32 games with 10 RBI and one long ball.

Thomas made another step up the ladder in 2015, jumping to High A Modesto in the California League. Thomas played in a career-high 113 games and hit a .248 with six home runs and 49 RBI. In 2016 Thomas would hit .289 at AA Hartford in the Eastern League with four homers and 46 RBI.

Thomas made three stops in the Rockies system in 2017, playing in three games at AAA Albuquerque and 12 games at High A Lancaster with the bulk of his playing time coming in 83 games at AA Hartford. He hit .229 at Hartford with six home runs and 37 RBI.

The Kansas City T-Bones also recently signed right-handed pitcher Tommy Collier for the 2018 season after acquiring him last week via trade with the Sugarland Skeeters of the Atlantic League.

Tommy Collier joins the T-Bones after spending 2011-2016 with the Detroit Tigers organization and reaching AA Erie in 2016, posting a career 41-37 record and a 3.88 ERA in 650 innings with Detroit.

T-Bones’ rainout game rescheduled for Sunday evening doubleheader

A rainout on Saturday night’s T-Bones game with Lincoln at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan., has been rescheduled for Sunday evening.

The game was rescheduled at 6 p.m., and will be the first game of a doubleheader. The first game will be seven innings. The T-Bones were scheduled to play a game at 7:05 p.m. originally.

Gates will now open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the ballpark box office or through calling 913-328-5618.

T-Bones sign former Royals farmhand Marquez

The Kansas City T-Bones announced they have signed rookie Alex Marquez to a contract for the 2015 season.

Marquez, 22 (12-10-92), is a 5-foot-11 and 190-pound catcher from Maunabo, Puerto Rico.

He played in 13 games in 2014 with Auburn, the Washington Nationals’ low-A club, and batted .154 with four hits and scored two runs. Marquez is a career .173 hitter with 48 hits, 48 walks, and 23 RBIs.

Defensively, Marquez has a .986 fielding percentage, catching in 104 games. He has thrown out 42 runners for a 24 percent caught stealing percentage.

“Alex is a solid defender who will compete for a spot in spring training,” said T-Bones manager John Massarelli.

Marquez has spent the majority of his professional career in the Kansas City Royals’ organization.

The Royals selected Marquez in the 29th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft at the age of 17 out of Alfonso Casta Martinez High School. In four minor-league seasons with the Royals, Marquez reached single-A Lexington in 2013.

The T-Bones open the 2015 regular season at home on May 22 against Lincoln.
