YMCA to hold Healthy Kids Day on Saturday
The Bonner Springs YMCA will hold Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 26. Activities will include a Mini Mudder obstacle course, face painting and a “build your own trail mix” station. Giveaways are planned. The event is free to members and community participants. The Bonner Springs YMCA is at 2251 S. 138th St., Bonner Springs. Other YMCAs in the area also are offering Healthy Kids Day activities. They include 8th Street Family YMCA, at 900 N. 8th St., Kansas City, Kan., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26; and Providence YMCA-Ball Family Center, at 8601 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26. The 8th Street Family YMCA is planning free activities for kids. The Providence YMCA has scheduled activities for kids, 4-H animals, science experiments, YMCA community garden, playground activities, mascot visits, kids Zumba, and face painting. Prescription drug takeback day locations offered
The eighth annual Prescription Drug Takeback Day is Saturday, April 26, at locations throughout Kansas City, Kan., and the state of Kansas. Dropoff sites are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 for safe disposal of unused or expired medications. There is no charge and no questions are asked.

String art workshop planned
A string art workshop for children 5 and above is planned from 2 to 3 p.m. April 26 at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. It is free and open to the public. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. There is limited space; grops are asked not to attend.

‘Cats’ music to be performed by Mid-Life Players
The Mid-Life Players, a local nonprofit musical theater group, will present a concertized performance of the Andrew Lloyd Webber favorite, “Cats,” this Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26, and next weekend, May 2 and 3, at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., in Kansas City, Kan.  Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. for each performance. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased through brownpapertickets.com.

Rowing Sunflower Showdown today  at Wyandotte County Lake

Women’s university rowing begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road.

The University of Kansas and Kansas State University will compete for the Kansas Cup today.

Also at the meet today will be teams from Southern Methodist University and Drake.

Today’s event starts at 10 a.m. and continues through the afternoon.

Puppet-making workshop planned

A puppet-making workshop is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 29 at the Turner Community Library, 831 S. 55th.

The workshop for adults and teens 13 and older is sponsored by the Kansas City Clowns and Turner Community Library.

Those attending will discuss puppetry and have an opportunity to create a simple puppet. Advance registration is required to 913-596-1404.

Ham and bean fundraiser dinner planned Saturday

Grinter Chapel United Methodist Church’s Annual Ham and Bean Dinner will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the church 7819 Swartz Road, Kansas City, Kan.

Homemade vegetable soup also will be served. For a donation of $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger, those attending will receive ham and beans or vegetable soup, corn bread, dessert and drink.

Rainbow of Colors event planned Saturday

The second annual Rainbow of Colors in the Bible Luncheon will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29. The host of the event is the Mary F. Handy Women’s Missionary Society of the First AME Church, 1111 N. 8th St., Kansas City, Kan.

Other women’s organizations and members of other churches are invited.

Table sponsorships are available at $200 per table, or individuals may attend at $20 per person. Each table will select a color.
