Ford’s perfect game highlights KCKCC sweep at Cottey

Leslie Ford’s perfect game highlighted Kansas City Kansas Community College’s sweep at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., Tuesday.

Ford pitched the Lady Blue Devils to a 13-0 win and Elizabeth Seimears followed up with a 5-hit shutout in a 17-0 rout in pair of 5-inning games.

The two wins boosted the Blue Devils’ overall record to 24-8 heading into a doubleheader at No. 12 ranked Highland Wednesday before they return home to host Cloud County Friday at 2-4 p.m. and Brown Mackie Saturday at noon-2 p.m.

Ford struck out 11 of the 15 batters she faced in Tuesday’s opening win while Seimears fanned seven in her 5-hitter in the nightcap.

Lacey Santiago doubled and tripled and drove in four runs; Amanda Holroyd doubled and tripled to drive in two to pace a 12-hit KCKCC attack in the opener.

Megan Dike added a double and single, Laura Vanderheiden two singles and Hanna Barnhart a double for the Blue Devils.

Santiago and Holroyd sandwiched their triples around Justice Scales single for a 2-0 lead in the first and Santiago’s 3-run double in the second following hits by Ford and Vanderheiden made it 6-0.

The final seven runs came in the fourth in an uprising that included back-to-back doubles by Mierra Morisette, Holroyd and Barnhart and a single and double by Dike. Morisette drove in six runs in the second game, three on a home run and two on a double in a 13-run fourth inning.

Holroyd also had a two-run homer and single in the inning while Barnhart, Scales and Santiago each had a double and single in the uprising.

The 12-hit inning also included a run-scoring double by Dike and two-run double by Henigton.

Lady Blue Devils blank Haskell twice; home Friday, Saturday

Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Lady Blue Devils continued their assault on opposing pitchers Monday, pounding out back-to-back 8-0 wins at Haskell University.

The sweep boosted the Blue Devils’ overall record to 22-8 heading into a doubleheader at Cottey College Tuesday before returning home to play host to Cloud County Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Brown Mackie Saturday at noon to 2 p.m.

Leftfielder Mierra Morisette paced a 14-hit attack in the opener, driving in four runs with a double and two singles.

Lacey Santiago added a triple and single, Elizabeth Seimears a double and single and Justice Scales and Leslie Ford two singles each.

Ford went the 6-inning distance for her 15th win of the season, allowing just two hits, striking out five and walking one.

KCKCC jumped in front 3-0 in the second on singles by Ford and Ashley Henington, a run-scoring triple by Santiago and a 2-run double by Morisette and added three more in the fifth on singles by Ford, Seimears, Santiago, Scales and another 2-run double by Morisette.

Hanna Barnhart’s single and a 2-out double by Seimears and a single by Laura Vanderheiden scored the final two runs in the sixth.

Myranda Ybarra made her first start of the season in the nightcap, allowing four hits, striking out two and walking two in the 5-inning game.

Santiago’s four singles paced a 15-hit KCKCC assault. Scales and Morisette added three singles each while Barnhart and Megan Dike each singled and doubled.

Three times in the contest, the top three hitters in the Blue Devil lineup – Santiago, Scales and Morisette – started scoring outbursts with back-to-back singles.

Barnhart’s 2-out double staked KCKCC to a 1-0 lead in the first.

Amanda Holroyd’s sacrifice fly and hits by Seimears and Dike contributed to a 4-run uprising in the third, Morisette’s third hit made it 6-0 in the fourth and the Blue Devils closed out the scoring in the fifth on a single by Barnhart, double by Dike and single by Santiago.

KCKCC hands No. 7 Cowley two losses but swept at Indy

Kansas City Kansas Community College handed No. 7 ranked Cowley County a double setback Friday but then fell to Independence in a twin bill Saturday.

The Lady Blue Devils pounded out 28 hits in winning 7-6 and 8-5 at Cowley before dropping 4-3 and 10-7 decisions to Independence, which also had been nationally ranked as recent as last week.

The split left KCKCC in seventh place in the Jayhawk with a 12-8 record and 20-8 overall.

Back in action Monday at Haskell, the Blue Devils play at Cottey College Tuesday before returning home to be host to Cloud County Friday from  2 to 4 p.m. and Brown Mackie Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

After Amanda Holroyd had singled in a run in the first, the Blue Devils scored four times in the second on five straight hits, singles by Dike, Vanderheiden and Santiago, a double by Justice Scales and a two-run triple by Morisette.

The final two runs came identically. Barnhart led off both the fifth and seventh innings with singles and scored each time on two-out singles by Dike.

Tied 2-2 through five innings of the nightcap, the Blue Devils exploded for six runs in the sixth powered by a 3-run home run by Hanna Barnhart, her first of the season and fourth RBI of the game.

Successive one-out singles by Ashley Henington, Vanderheiden, Santiago and Justice Scales ignited the rally before Barnhart rapped a 3-2 pitch for a home run.

Barnhart also singled in a run in a 2-run first following the first of three hits by Santiago and the first of two by Morisette.

Elizabeth Seimears limited Cowley to just two runs the first six innings before the Tigers scored three times in the seventh, two after a one-out error.

Ford came on with one out to record her second save of the season. Independence tied Saturday’s opener in the bottom of the sixth inning on a fly ball that KCKCC centerfielder Justice Scales caught momentarily only to have the ball bounce out of her glove and over the fence for a game-tying home run.

The Lady Pirates then added what proved to be the game winner on a two-out error. Ford (14-4) took the loss, allowing seven hits and striking out five. KCKCC, which was limited to just five hits, scored all its runs in the fourth on a walk, a single by Morisette and Holroyd’s 3-run home run, her second of the season.

The Blue Devils pounded out 14 hits in the 10-7 nightcap including three each by Scales, Morisette and Holroyd and two by Dike only to have Indy score in every inning. KCKCC took a 3-0 lead in the first on five straight hits, singles by Scales, Morisette, Holroyd and Dike and a 2-run triple by Barnhart.

Trailing 6-3 in the fourth, KCKCC tied it on singles by Seimears and Scales and doubles by Morisette and Holroyd. Morisette also doubled in the sixth and scored on Holroyd’s single, her third RBI of the game.
