Labette was as good as its first place Jayhawk Conference softball standings in a sweep of Kansas City Kansas Community College Saturday.

Improving their Jayhawk record to 15-1, the Cardinals ended KCKCC’s 7- game winning streak with 10-2 and 4-1 wins and a sweep of their four-game series. The losses dropped KCKCC (12-6) into third place in Division A behind Labette and Johnson County (12-4).

At Crowder College Tuesday, the Blue Devils (31-9) resume Jayhawk play at Cloud County Thursday before returning home Saturday to play host to Neosho County (1-3 p.m.).

The Blue Devils managed just seven hits in the two losses to Labette.

“Labette pitching was very good,” KCKCC coach Lana Ross said. “They just shut us down; just as they did the first time.”

Alaina Howe had two singles and Jenna Daugherty one for the only KCKCC hits in the 10-2 opener. The Blue Devils trailed just 3-1 before Labette scored six runs in the fourth. Breanna Droge (11-5) took the loss, allowing three hits and seven earned runs in 3.1 innings. Nerida Elson pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs.

Savannah Maynard tripled and Devin Purcell, Hannah Maurer and Bradi Basler singled for the Blue Devil his in the 4-1 nightcap. Basler (15-4) gave up six hits and three earned runs, walking two and striking out six in the route-going effort.

Kansas City Kansas Community College tightened its hold on third place in the Jayhawk Conference with a sweep at Hesston Thursday but it didn’t come easy.

After scoring eight runs in the final three innings in a 12-7 win in the opener, the Blue Devils had to score four runs in the top of the seventh to rally for a 8-5 nightcap win.

KCKCC followed up the sweep with another on Saturday, 19-12 and 9-1 over Metropolitan.

The wins stretched KCKCC’s winning streak to eight in a row and 24-6 overall. At 6-4 in the 5-team Division II, Division A Conference, the Blue Devils are third behind Labette (7-1) and Johnson County (8-2). Home Tuesday against Crowder at 2-4, the Blue Devils play at No. 13 ranked Johnson County Community College Saturday at noon and 2 p.m.

KCKCC trailed 5-4 in the seventh inning of the second game at Hesston before rallying for the 8-5 win.

After singles by Bradi Basler and Alexis Rymer and a walk loaded the bases with one out, Jenna Daugherty singled in the tying run. Madison Pope’s two-run double broke the 5-5 tie and Alaina Howe singled in the final run.

Basler went the distance for the pitching win, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, striking out eight and walking three. Howe led the offense, driving in four runs with a double and two singles while Pope and Devin Purcell had two hits each.

Five Blue Devils had two or more hits in the 12-7 win. Savannah Maynard gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead in the third with a bases-loaded double, one of three she had in the game. Pope and Hannah Maarer also had three hits and each with a double; Daugherty doubled and singled and Basler singled twice,

Breanna Droge got the pitching win with help from Samantha Reynolds. Droge worked 5.1 innings, allowing five runs, striking out five and walking three before Reynolds came on with one out in the sixth and gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits in a wild finish. KCKCC scored two runs in the fifth and three in both the sixth and seventh; Hesston scored three times in both the sixth and seventh.

KCKCC trailed Metro 12-11 in the fifth inning before scoring eight runs in the sixth of the 19-12 slugfest Saturday.

Pope homered and drove in four runs while four other Blue Devils had two hits – Rymer with two doubles and Maynard, Basler, and Daugherty two singles each.

The last of four Blue Devil pitchers, Basler got the win, allowing five hits and three runs while facing 15 hitters. Droge, Elson and Reynolds pitched the first five innings.

Basler also got the win in the 9-1 nightcap, allowing just two hits and no earned runs in the 6-inning game.

Rymer drove in four runs with a double and single to pace the Blue Devils. Maynard drove in two runs with a double and single while Purcell and Pope each had two hits.

Unleashing the biggest long ball attack of the season, Kansas City Kansas Community College needed just 11 innings to sweep a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader from Coffeyville Tuesday.

The Blue Devils belted four home runs in a 13-5 6-inning opener and added two more in a 14-1 win in the 5-inning nightcap. The wins came on the heels of 3-0 and 6-2 wins over Fort Scott on Monday and boosted the Blue Devils’ Jayhawk record to 4-4 and 20-6 overall.

KCKCC resumes conference play at Hesston Thursday before returning home against Metropolitan Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.

Savannah Maynard, Hannah Maurer, Alaina Howe and Alexis Rymer all homered in the 13-5 win over Coffeyville. Maynard also doubled and drove in two runs; Lindsey Gettle tripled and singled; and Bradi Basler doubled and singles.

KCKCC used four pitchers in the win. The Red Ravens rapped two home runs off starter Breanna Droge in the first two innings before Samantha Reynolds closed out the second inning. Nerida Elson was touched for five hits and two earned runs in two innings before Basler finished, allowing no hits and striking out four in two innings.

Basler then got the win in the 14-1 nightcap, scattering five hits and striking out three in five innings. She walked none and also belted a 3-run home run. Gettle led the offense with a home run and two doubles and five RBIs while Devin Purcell singled twice.

Droge allowed just three hits and struck out four in shutting out Fort Scott 3-0 Monday. Jenna Daugherty homered and singled to pace the KCKCC offense.

Basler drove in three runs with a home run and single in the 6-2 nightcap and got the pitching win. She allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one in 4.2 innings, Samantha Reynolds got a 2.1 inning save, allowing just two hits and fanning two after coming on with two out in the fifth inning. Maynard doubled twice and Gettle singled twice for the Blue Devils.
