Three Blue Devil pitchers combine on two-hitter in 8-3 win

Parker Weddle and two relievers combined on a two-hitter Wednesday in Kansas City Kansas Community College’s 8-3 win over Benedictine junior varsity in Atchison.

The win boosted the Blue Devils’ record to 5-3 heading into a 2 p.m. clash with Des Moines Area Community College Saturday.

A sophomore from Oak Park High School, Kansas City, Missouri, Weddle didn’t allow a hit until one out in the fourth inning. He worked six innings, allowing one run on two hits. He walked three, struck out nine.

Logan Bernard pitched two innings, giving up no hits, an unearned run and striking out three before Eli Tormes finished up with one hitless frame.

Caleb Adams and Raymond Paniagua each doubled and singled, Brendyn Bard drove in three runs and Darius Freeman two to lead the Blue Devils’ 10-hit attack.

KCKCC scored all the runs Weddle would need in the second inning. After singles by Camden Karlin and Cole Dawson sandwiched around an error scored a run, Bard singled home two more and Adams one in taking a 4-0 lead.

A Paniagua single and sacrifice fly by Samuel Juarez made it 5-0 in the third; Bard drove in his third run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth; and Freeman drove in the final two runs with a single in the ninth.

KCKCC baseball back above .500 with sweep of Rockhurst junior varsity

Kansas City Kansas Community College climbed back over the .500 mark with a sweep of Rockhurst junior varsity Tuesday.

The Blue Devils rallied in the sixth inning for a 5-2 win in the opener and completed the sweep with a 14-4 breeze in the second game.

The win lifted KCKCC’s record to 4-3 heading into a road game against Benedictine junior varsity in Atchison Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and home contests Saturday with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) at 2 p.m.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning of the opener, the Blue Devils exploded for four runs on five hits for the 5-2 win.

Samuel Juarez ignited the winning rally with a one-out triple and scored on Cole Dawson’s game-tying single.

Brendyn Bard doubled to put the Blue Devils in front and Caleb Adams and Raymond Paniagua closed out the 4-run uprising with run-scoring singles.

Palmer Hutchinson provided the Blue Devils’ first run with a solo home run in the fourth, his fourth of the season.

Tyler Kapraun got the pitching win, giving up two runs on five hits in five innings. He struck out five. Sebastian Velez finished up, allowing one hit and striking out four in two innings.

The Blue Devils scored in every inning in the 6-inning 14-4 nightcap.

Five of KCKCC’s 11 hits were for extra bases led by Dawson, who drove in four runs with a 3-run home run and a triple.

Paniagua also tripled and Bard and Darius Freeman both doubled. Hutchinson chipped in with a pair of singles and Ivan Ortiz singled in two runs in the sixth.

Tre Simmons pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, walking three and striking out four.

Chase Terrell struck out two in 1.2 hitless innings and Hunter Cashero allowed one hit and fanned two in the sixth inning.

Blue Devils limited to five hits in two losses to Barton

Barton County pitchers slammed the door on Kansas City Kansas Community College hitters in sweeping a doubleheader Saturday.

The Blue Devils were limited to three hits in an opening 15-7 loss and just two singles in a 6-0 blanking in the nightcap. The loss left KCKCC 2-3 heading into Jayhawk Conference play at Butler County Thursday. The two teams then conclude the 4-game series at home Saturday.

The Blue Devils scored seven runs on just three hits in the15-7 opener. Palmer Hutchinson belted a two-run home run in the first inning, his second in two days. Caleb Adams singled in a run in a 3-run third and Braden Vawter doubled and scored in the eighth.

Barton jumped in front early, scoring four runs on four hits in the first and five runs on just one hit in the second. Alan Mercado gave up five hits and nine runs (three unearned) before Camden Karlin pitched 3.1 strong innings, allowing three hits, one run and striking out seven. Logan Bernard and Joseph Reyes finished up, each allowing two hits.

Camden Karlin and Cole Dawson had the only KCKCC hits in the 6-0 second game as just five Blue Devils reached base. Gabriel Ramos worked the first four innings, giving up four runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking three. Hunter Cashero pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Home runs accounted for the first four Barton runs. Connor Scott hit a 2-run round tripper in the second; Conner Allen hammered his third home run in three games in the fourth; and Alex Rodgers had a solo blast in the fifth. Zach Johnson worked the first five innings for the win.
