Fundraiser to benefit victims of domestic violence

A fundraiser to help domestic violence victims and for safer homes will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at the grounds of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.

The WyCo Sisterhood Foundation is holding the Masquerade Ball to raise funds to “unmask domestic violence.”

The event will feature music, live entertainment, a costume contest, a raffle and silent auction.

Proceeds will assist the Friends of Yates in their efforts to fight domestic violence and provide safer homes.

The WyCo Sisterhood was founded in 2019 by volunteers who worked at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival to raise money for local charities. The group started its own foundation to address the needs of the community directly.

Friends of Yates opened the first emergency domestic violence shelter in Wyandotte County in 1980, and continues to offer assistance, education, prevention services and resources.

Friends of Yates is part of the Metropolitan Family Violence Coalition, a collaborative effort committed to providing services for domestic violence victims throughout the Kansas City area.

VIP admission for the Masquerade Ball is $60 and includes dinner and a happy hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. General admission begins at 8:30 p.m.; tickets are $25 online and $30 at the door. Anyone who brings a new or gently used coat to donate to students in the Bonner Springs School District will receive a free raffle ticket.
