Brett named grand marshal of May 7 Kansas Speedway race

Former Royal George Brett will be the grand marshal at the May 7 Go Bowling 400 race at Kansas Speedway.

Brett, a Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member, also was one of the first persons in line to buy Kansas Speedway season tickets when the tickets went on sale before the facility opened.

“George Brett is an iconic figure not just in Kansas City but to sports fans across the country and I’m excited to have him take part in the Go Bowling 400,” said Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren. “George has an impressive resume, winning a World Series title with the Royals, a Gold Glove, an MVP award, and I’m thrilled that Kansas Speedway was able to add another accomplishment to this already extraordinary list – grand marshal.”

Brett, who played his entire career with the Kansas City Royals organization, is considered one of baseball’s greatest clutch hitters and was chosen Royals Player of the Year eight times. The 13-time All-Star was named the 1980 American League MVP and won a Gold Glove in 1985. He was the first player in Major League history to win batting titles in three decades (1976, 1980 and 1990) and the first with career totals of more than 3,000 hits, 300 home runs, 600 doubles, 100 triples and 200 stolen bases.

In 1999, Brett was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame with the fourth-highest vote percentage ever recorded (98 percent).

May 7 Sprint Cup series race sponsor at Kansas Speedway will be GoBowling.com

The May race at the Kansas Speedway will be sponsored by GoBowling.com, according to an announcement today.

The Sprint Cup series night race will be May 7, on Mother’s Day weekend, at the racetrack in Kansas City, Kan. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, according to the announcement.

“We’re excited to announce our partnership with GoBowling.com for our May Sprint Cup Series night race,” said Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren, in a news release. “I’m thrilled to be able to work with such a family-friendly brand at Kansas Speedway because NASCAR racing appeals to fans of all ages. I know this will be a great partnership with GoBowling.com and I can’t wait to see their activation not only at Kansas Speedway but at bowling centers around the country.”

“Bowling is the number one participation game in the U.S. and NASCAR is one of the most popular fan-based sports making this a natural partnership,” said Strike Ten Entertainment President John G. Harbuck, in the news release. “We have very similar demographics so the exposure we get from this sponsorship – both in the Midwest and nationally – will allow us to promote bowling to current and potential bowlers, especially families and young bowlers.

“We will use the race as a platform to remind people what a great game bowling is for all ages and drive them to our website where they can find bowling centers near them as well as connect with us via social media,” he added.

As part of the agreement, GoBowling.com has naming rights to the race that will be featured on a nationally-televised broadcast and other news media. In addition, GoBowling.com will have extensive signage throughout Kansas Speedway and the rights to execute on-site and online promotional activations including regional and national consumer promotions such as bowling leagues, prize promotions and other branding initiatives.

GoBowling.com is a website to learn more about the great sport of bowling including information about 3,000-plus bowling centers throughout the country. Fans can learn about their local bowling centers, take advantage of promotional offers, watch bowling video tips and more.

Kansas Speedway tickets for all events in 2016 will be on sale soon. Kansas Speedway’s May 6-7, 2016 race weekend will include the Toyota Tundra 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and the GoBowling.com 400.

In October, the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns with the Hollywood Casino 400 on Oct. 16. The Kansas Lottery 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series race will take center stage on Oct. 15, while the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship race will run on Oct. 14.

Kyle Busch conquers Kansas Speedway, wins SFP 250

Kyle Busch has had a love-hate relationship with Kansas Speedway recently, but tonight Busch definitely has a little bit better feeling for the track after winning the SFP 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in Kansas City, Kan.

“Kansas? I’m a winner at Kansas,” exclaimed Busch as he exited his truck in Victory Lane.

Busch, who has a NASCAR Nationwide Series win at Kansas Speedway, is hoping to parlay his win tonight into some momentum for tomorrow’s 5-hour ENERGY® 400 Benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Busch qualified 24th for tomorrow’s race.

Matt Crafton, who won last year’s SFP 250 and finished second tonight, currently leads the point standings in the series by eight points over Timothy Peters.

In NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying, Kevin Harvick captured the pole for tomorrow’s 5-hour ENERGY® 400 Benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation, the inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series night race at Kansas Speedway, which is Harvick’s second of the season.  He is attempting to become the sixth driver to win multiple races at Kansas Speedway. Harvick won last October’s Hollywood Casino 400, his first Sprint Cup Series win at Kansas Speedway.

Tickets for tomorrow night’s 5-hour ENERGY® 400 Benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation are available at the Kansas Speedway ticket office from 9 a.m. until noon tomorrow and then at Kansas Speedway’s Gate B starting at noon.
