Free fishing days June 4-5

Fishing in public lakes and waters will be free June 4-5 in Kansas, including at Wyandotte County Lake.

Anyone may fish in public waters June 4-5 in Kansas without a fishing license, according to state wildlife officials.

On other days, a fishing license is required for those ages 16 to 74.

On June 4-5, those who are fishing must still abide by other regulations such as limits on the number of fish caught. For more information, including a list of places to fish for free this weekend in Kansas, visit ksoutdoors.com/fishing.

Sunshine and mid-60s temperatures. Who could ask for anything more for the opening day of fishing season at Wyandotte County Lake?

There was more, however, as anglers reported good fishing today. Several caught their limit and had already headed home at midday, according to other fishermen at the lake on Saturday afternoon, March 14.

The opening day of fishing, originally scheduled March 7, had been delayed one week because of ice on the lake. There was no sign of ice March 14 as temperatures were in the 70s earlier this week.
