After chase, suspect’s vehicle hits police vehicle and others

Police located a stolen vehicle about 7:37 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 1100 block of Sandusky, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers saw the suspects try to ram other vehicles, and a chase started, according to the report

The pursuit ended in the 5300 bock of Parallel Parkway, where the suspect’s vehicle struck another vehicle and a police vehicle before becoming disabled, the report stated.

Two persons were taken into custody, according to the report.

Victim of accident on Mission Road found to be suspect in shooting

The victim of an accident at 10 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 4600 block of Mission Road was found to be a suspect in a shooting in the area, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers responded to the possible shooting and injury accident call and found a person who had crashed in a stolen black Dodge Ram, according to the report. The driver was a suspect in a shooting.

Victim attacked on Willard Court

A victim stated an unknown person approached her from behind, put a cloth around her neck and began to strangle her about 6 a.m. Aug. 20 in the 4100 block of Willard Court, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The suspect fled. The victim was taken to a hospital, according to the report.

Assault reported on South Mill Street

An aggravated assault was reported at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 300 block of South Mill Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

According to a victim, the suspect was attempting to deal with a family matter, and allegedly the suspect pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the victim, causing him to fear for his life, according to the report. The suspect then fled.

Driver sentenced to federal prison for smuggling 23 pounds of meth

A driver who was stopped on a Kansas highway with 23 pounds of methamphetamine in his car was sentenced today to 13.6 years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said.

Eduardo Garcia-Patino, 45, San Jancinto, California, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Garcia-Patino was stopped for a traffic violation while driving eastbound on I-70 in Geary County, Kansas. Investigators found a red duffel bag in his truck containing the methamphetamine.

McAllister commended the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jackson County Drug Task Force, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle McFarlane and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tris Hunt for their work on the case.

Federal crime operation nets more than 1,000 arrests

U.S. Attorney General William Barr announced on Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri, that more than 1,000 arrests were made nationally in Operation Legend.

The operation was named for a 4-year-old boy from Kansas City, Missouri, who was slain by gunfire June 29.

The federal operation against violent crime started in Kansas City, Missouri, where 43 defendants were charged with federal crimes, according to the announcement, and also expanded into several other cities, including Chicago, Albuquerque, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Memphis and Indianapolis.

Out of the 1,000 arrests, there were some defendants charged in state and local courts, and 217 charged with federal crimes, officials stated. Nearly 400 firearms were seized by the Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

In Kansas City, Missouri, 17 defendants were charged in state courts. The Kansas City, Missouri, cases included:

• 20 defendants have been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm;
• 17 defendants have been charged with drug trafficking;
• Four defendants have been charged with being a drug user in possession of a firearm;
• Six defendants have been charged with being in possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking;
• Four defendants have been charged with being in possession of a firearm in furtherance of violent crime;
• One defendant has been charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition;
• Three defendants have been charged with armed robbery;
• One defendant has been charged with carjacking; and
• One defendant has been charged with arson.
