California man pleads guilty to bringing heroin, fentanyl into Kansas

A California man pleaded guilty today to federal charges that officers found more than 9 pounds of fentanyl and more than 8 pounds of heroin when they stopped his car in Kansas, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said.

Eduardo Arellano-Sanchez, 24, Cathedral City, California, pleaded guilty to one count of interstate travel in furtherance of drug trafficking and one count of using a cell phone in furtherance of drug trafficking.

In his plea, Arellano-Sanchez admitted that on Aug. 21, 2019, officers stopped his car in Thomas County, Kansas. They found the fentanyl and heroin in his car. He was using his cell phone to navigate to a drug transaction to take place in New York.

Sentencing is set for Feb. 16, 2021. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 96 months in federal prison. McAllister commended the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Andrusak for their work on the case.

Commercial burglary reported on Parallel

A commercial burglary was reported at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, in the 3300 block of Parallel Parkway, according to a social media note by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers responded to a dispatched burglary call. According to the report, officers were told that suspects entered the business after damaging the property.

Two unidentified suspects fled the building, using an alternate exit, after the police arrived, the report stated.

Fire reported on South 40th

A fire was reported at 12:56 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at 1415 S. 40th St., according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department.

Early reports were that heavy fire and smoke was showing from the fire. It was fought offensively, and was extinguished.

After a search, no one was found inside the building, according to the report.

Commercial burglary reported from storage containers on State Avenue

A commercial burglary was reported about 1:03 p.m. Sept. 23 in the 5200 block of State Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

An unknown person entered the building during the previous evening, cut locks belonging to about 12 storage containers and committed thefts, according to the report.

Minor injury reported when shots fired on Coronado Road

Shots were fired at 10:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at a residence in the 3100 block of Coronado, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim had a minor bullet wound but did not cooperate with police and EMS, and refused medical treatment, according to the report. Officers collected evidence. The location is near West Parkwood Boulevard and Coronado Road, not far from K-5.

Armed disturbance reported at motel near 47th and State

Police responded at 11:55 p.m. Sept. 23 to reports of an individual with a firearm at a motel in the 4700 block of State Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers located the individual with the handgun, and the person was taken into custody, according to the report.
