BPU has additional COVID-19 case

The Board of Public Utilities had one additional COVID-19 case this week, according to a BPU official at the Wednesday night, July 15, BPU meeting.

According to Dennis Dumovich, with human resources at BPU, the KCK BPU found out about one additional positive COVID-19 case on Wednesday and had to quarantine four additional people as a result of that positive case.

The four who were quarantined were scheduled to be tested on Thursday, and will be under quarantine until they receive the results from their test, he said. The BPU had only three others quarantined at that point, he said.

Earlier, the BPU had three positive cases, according to officials, with no new cases since June 5.

At the July 15 meeting, BPU General Manager Bill Johnson reported that the BPU was working on a CARES Act application for federal funding. They were trying to get it completed before the Sunday deadline for submission, he said.

In other action, Lori Austin, BPU chief financial officer, reported that the Unified Government Commission had passed the BPU’s bond issue and refunding resolution on July 9.

She said they are planning next to have calls with three ratings agencies.

The BPU anticipates to sell bonds the week of Aug. 17, she said. She added they are only refunding the maturities that bring in positive savings.
