The Kansas City T-Bones notched their third straight victory, 6-2, over the Texas Airhogs on Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.
The T-Bones started things off hot in the first inning with a two-run home run from Keyin Keyes. The first baseman worked his way back up to the tie for first place in the American Association with his 17th home run of the season.
Texas tried to halt Kansas City’s momentum with a sacrifice fly from Beamer Weems scoring Charley Thurber, cutting their deficit to one going into the bottom of the second.
Kansas City extended its lead back to two in the third with an error by third baseman Casio Grider, allowing the T-Bones’ third baseman, Marcus Lemon, to score.
Keyes launched a solo home run in the fifth, securing his 18th of the season to take sole possession as the American Association’s home run leader and to put the T-Bones up 4-1. An RBI single by designated hitter Leo Rojas stretched the lead to four runs going into the sixth inning.
The Airhogs attempted to make a comeback, but could only contribute one final run in the sixth inning. A Denis Phipps RBI double scored brought in first baseman Levi Scott for the second and final run of the game.
The T-Bones, however, continued to bring the energy going into the final innings and launched their third home run of the evening, this time by Cedric Hunter. The center fielder’s first home run with the T-Bones organization extended their lead to 6-2 going into the seventh.
With the Airhogs unable to score any further, the T-Bones took the series and won their third straight game, 6-2.
Right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll (6-3, 3.19) notched the victory and Airhogs’ right-hander, TJ Bozeman (3-5, 3.12), suffered the loss in the third matchup.
