T-Bones wallop Goldeyes with 17 hits

The Kansas City T-Bones, smacked 17 hits, and won the series Monday evening, 7-5, at Shaw Park against the Goldeyes in Winnipeg, Canada.

The T-Bones, who led the entire game, struck first with an Adam Bailey RBI single in the first inning, which plated Nate Tenbrink for an early 1-0 lead against the reigning American Association pitcher of the week, Nick Hernandez (8-4).

Hernandez was then hammered for four runs in the second inning. All four runs came with two outs, as Kansas City took an early 5-0 lead.

The high-powered Goldeyes offense struck for four of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning with two separate two-run home runs against T-Bones starting pitcher Kris Regas to bring the score to a 5-4 T-Bones lead.

Regas, pitching on short rest, finished the game with four and two-thirds innings pitched, and allowed four runs on just four hits to go with six strikeouts.

The T-Bones racked out 17 hits, and every starter in the game contributed with at least one hit. Nate Tenbrink, Jake Blackwood and James Boddicker each had three hits for Kansas City.

Joe Van Meter (3-3) picked up the win for Kansas City, with one and one-third perfect innings out of the Kansas City bullpen. Aaron Baker continued his dominant season, with a perfect seventh inning. Fernando Hernandez picked up his 14th save of the season, with two innings of one-run baseball, preserving the series win for Kansas City.

The T-Bones finished the road trip with a 4-2 record, and won both series 2-1 over Sioux Falls and Winnipeg.

The T-Bones (36-27), who continue to lead the Wild-Card, begin an eight-game homestand Wednesday evening against Joplin in a doubleheader scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.
