The Kansas City T-Bones (44-31) topped the Salina Stockade (13-63), 7-2, in the opening game of a four-game series at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.
After a 10-game road trip, the T-Bones were ready start things early with their in-state rivals, the Salina Stockade. First baseman Kyle Petty launched a solo home run to put the T-Bones on the board in the second inning.
Petty drove in the second run to kick off a big fourth inning for Kansas City. Third baseman Jordan Edgerton notched his fifth home run of the season, adding two runs to give the T-Bones a 5-0 lead going into the fifth.
An RBI double to center field extended the T-Bones’ lead to 6-0 and put Petty a triple away from completing the cycle on the night.
Kansas City kept stretching its lead throughout the remainder of the game. Cedric Hunter nailed his second home run in as many nights, putting the T-Bones on top 7-0 in the seventh inning.
The Stockade were finally able to score in the eighth inning off an RBI single from third baseman Jordan Caillouet that would start a spark through the final inning.
Salina added a second and final run in the ninth inning with an RBI double to left field from shortstop Logan Trowbridge, but ultimately was not able to come back from Kansas City’s early start. The T-Bones topped the Stockade, 7-2, taking game one of the four-game series on Thursday night.
Kansas City’s right-handed pitcher Gabe Perez (6-4, 4.64) secured the win for the T-Bones, while left-handed pitcher Troy Mannebach (2-4, 4.08) suffered the loss for the Stockade.
Right-handed pitcher Matt Sergey (2-1, 3.12) will start on the mound Friday night for the T-Bones.
The T-Bones will continue a four-game series with the Stockade at 7:05 p.m. Friday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. It will be Back to School Night with a drawstring backpack giveaway.
