The Kansas City T-Bones beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 2-1, to take the series and move up to second place in the Central Division in the American Association on Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.
The opening three innings were scoreless yet again, but the RedHawks were able to get things rolling earlier in the game tonight.
Right fielder Ryan Pineda’s RBI double to right field allowed runners to advance around the bases. Third baseman Josh Mazzola scored off of the play, putting Fargo-Moorhead up 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
T-Bones’ left fielder Joe Jackson hit a two-run home run, giving Jackson his second home run in as many games. The T-Bones took over a 2-1 lead to end the fourth with Jackson’s play.
The following innings ended scoreless for both teams, despite attempts to make it around the diamond. Kansas City left runners on first and third in the bottom of the sixth losing the opportunity to add cushion to their one-run lead. The RedHawks, however, couldn’t even muster a hit following their fourth inning RBI double.
Fargo-Moorhead’s inability to hit in the final five innings cost it the game and the series. The T-Bones took over second place in the Central Division in the American Association with the 2-1 win over the RedHawks.
Kansas City’s right-handed pitcher Matt Sergey earned the win, while left-handed pitcher, Will Solomon, took the loss. A 1-2-3 ninth inning tossed from right-handed pitcher Cody Winiarski secured the victory.
The T-Bones will begin a four game series with the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. There are planned appearances by Big Jay, Baby Jay and members of the KU soccer team and spirit squad to celebrate KU Night with the T-Bones.
