The Kansas City T-Bones won the series opener Saturday evening, 5-0, against the Railcats at the U.S. Steelyard in Gary, Ind.
The T-Bones jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the second inning, when Vladimir Frias opened up the inning with a double, and scored two batters later on a Brian Erie RBI single, against Gary starting pitcher A.J. Quintero (1-5).
That’s all the offense Kansas City starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn (2-0) needed to pick up the series opening win. Strawn went six scoreless innings, and allowed just two hits. Jared Messer pitched a perfect seventh inning. Aaron Baker pitched a scoreless eighth, and Fernando Hernandez slammed the door with a perfect ninth inning.
Kansas City scored five runs on seven hits. All nine starters got on base in the win.
Jake Blackwood missed his first game of 2015. Adam Bailey is the only player who has played in every game for Kansas City, in his first T-Bones season.
Bobby Doran (8-5) will get the starting nod for Kansas City Sunday afternoon against right-hander Travis McGee (2-2).
The T-Bones (49-48) continue the final series in 2015, with a 2:10 p.m. start Sunday afternoon against the Gary Southshore Railcats (43-55).
