T-Bones offense comes back to avoid series sweep

by Luke Schrock

In the seventh inning, the T-Bones rallied to come from behind and defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-2 on Sunday in Gary, Indiana.

The T-Bones, 21-20, have a day off Monday before starting a home series on Tuesday with the Sioux Falls Canaries. There will be post-game fireworks on July 3 and 4 at T-Bones Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas.

On Sunday, the RailCats started a true rookie, Seth Hougesen (0-0), who went four innings in his first professional start.

Hougesen allowed only one hit with two walks and a strikeout to conclude his four innings of work. Robbie Coursel took over in the fifth inning and had similar success, only giving up one run on three hits.

However, the tables turned quickly once Jack Alkire came in the middle of the 7th inning to face Ramsey Romano.

Tommy Collier started for the T-Bones and got his fourth quality start of the season throwing six total innings, one earned run, and four strikeouts. The T-Bones went through five pitchers to conclude the series. Besides Collier, Magliaro and Diaz were the only other pitchers that went a full inning. Diaz earned his third save of the season.

Romano started the scoring for the T-Bones, erasing a 1-0 deficit courtesy of a Colin Willis RBI single in the first inning. Romano reached first on a ground ball to shortstop Marcus Mooney, scoring Shawn O’Malley who singled to start the 7th inning.

Dylan Tice kept the ball rolling by driving in Ramsey Romano with an RBI single to make it a 2-1 ball game. Then the hot Daniel Nava, who had a two-game homerun streak entering the game, hit a two-run single to score both Danny Mars and Dylan Tice.

The 4th place Sioux Falls Canaries, who are playing the T-Bones for the first time this season, visit Kansas City, Kansas, from Tuesday through Thursday. Christian Binford is the probable starting pitcher for game one of the homestand, currently sporting a record of 1-0 and an ERA of 3.14 of three appearances.

The upcoming homestand will feature two straight days of post-game fireworks for July 3 and 4 in honor of Independence Day at T-Bones Stadium.
