The Kansas City T-Bones started their series with the Milwaukee Milkmen on Monday night in Kokomo, Indiana, ready to break their five-game losing skid. Despite their ninth inning rally, they could not beat the Milkmen, losing the game, 7-4.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Milwaukee Milkmen (8-10) attacked first, grabbing an early lead of 2-0. The Milkmen used a lead of triple by Nolan Earley to set the tone.
After trailing for the first four innings, the T-Bones (7-9) got on the board with an RBI double by Shawn O’Malley that scored Mikey Reynolds, making the score 2-1 in the fifth off Kurt Heyer.
Then the Milkmen came back with a two-run home run by Jose Rosario with Manuel Boscan on base increasing the Milkmen’s lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth off T-Bones starter Marc Magliaro. The right-hander worked six innings, giving up four earned runs.
Darnell Sweeney hit a double that allowed Ryan Brett to advance to third for Kansas City in the top of the seventh. Then, Brett ran home on a wild pitch, making the score 4-2.
Milwaukee got that run back in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs Jose Rosario singled and it looked like there would be runners at first and third. But an errant throw to first base from second baseman Dylan Tice to try to get Rosario off the bag allowed Manuel Boscan to come in to make it 5-2.
In the bottom of the eighth T-Bones reliever Jackson Lowery walked Nolan Earley with the bases loaded to score one run and Teodoro Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 7-2 in favor of Milwaukee.
In the top of the ninth, Daniel Nava hit a double, allowing Shawn O’Malley to run home for the T-Bones. Then, Nava advanced to third on a wild pitch, letting Franco score, making the score 7-4.
Kansas City rallied but it wasn’t enough as they dropped the first game of the series to the Milwaukee Milkmen, 7-4. Heyer (2-2) was the winner, while Magliaro (1-1) was charged with the loss. Former T-Bone Myles Smith (5) earned the save.
The T-Bones continue their series with the Milwaukee Milkmen again Tuesday, June 4. The series is being played in Kokomo, Indiana, because of construction delays in Milwaukee on their new ball park.
The game will be on the T-Bones Broadcast Network at http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/ with a first pitch of 5:35 p.m.
