The Kansas City T-Bones had the fireworks, but the Lincoln Saltdogs had more firepower Sunday night.
The Saltdogs swept Sunday’s doubleheader, 7-5 and 7-3 in front of a sparse crowd at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
Clouds threatened the skies, some rain fell and the area was under a flood advisory, but for the most part of six hours, there was just a little mist and very little rain at the doubleheader. Immediately after the games, the T-Bones executed a beautiful midnight fireworks display for fans.
The two games were each seven innings; one was a rain makeup game from Saturday.
In the first game, the Saltdogs jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. The T-Bones’ four-run rally in the fifth inning was not enough to win.
In the second game, the T-Bones went into the top of the seventh with a 3-1 lead and came out behind four runs after a Saltdogs six-run rally. T-Bones’ closer Kris Regas gave up six runs on four hits, and walked three batters.
In five innings, the T-Bones’ starting pitcher, Casey Barnes, gave up one run, a homer from Brian Joynt. In the sixth inning, when the score was tied 1-1, the T-Bones got hits from Ryan Cavan, Nate Tenbrink and Jake Blackwood to score two more runs.
After an off-day on Monday, the T-Bones, 1-2, will face Sioux City at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. For ticket information, call the box office at 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com.
