The Kansas City T-Bones beat an in-state rival, the Salina Stockade, 9-1 on a hot and muggy Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.
Kansas City took control of this game early and never looked back. An RBI single to left field from designated hitter Chase McDonald scored second baseman Patrick Brady for an early 1-0 lead. Left fielder Joe Jackson followed with an RBI single of his own to right field, scoring a second run in the opening inning.
McDonald continued his hot hitting in the fourth inning with a solo home run, extending the T-Bone’s lead to three runs. Brady added two more runs to end the fourth, thanks to an error by the Stockade’s third baseman. Kansas City went into the fifth inning with a 5-0 lead over Salina.
While the T-Bones continued to hit everything thrown at them, the Stockade struggled to get on the scoreboard. Calvin Drummond (2-1) tossed seven strong innings, giving up an unearned run in getting his second win.
Kansas City added to its lead in the fifth inning. Jackson’s RBI single to right field scored right fielder Chantz Mack, Kansas City’s sixth run. Jackson was then able to score off catcher Tony Caldwell’s sacrifice fly to right field, putting the T-Bones up 7-0.
The Stockade were finally able to score a run in the seventh inning because of an error by the T-Bones’ first baseman, Kevin Keyes. Third baseman, Mike Blanke, advanced to second on the error and right fielder, Jimmy Heck, was able to score on the play.
Brady brought in Caldwell for another run for the T-Bones in the eighth. His walk-in run extended Kansas City’s lead to seven. Keyes scored shortstop Eddie Newton for one final run, all but sealing the T-Bones’ 9-1 victory over the Stockade.
The T-Bones will continue a three-game series with the Salina Stockade Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
