T-Bones amass 21 hits in victory over Texas team

by Alex Dean

The Kansas City T-Bones’ bats came alive Friday night as they downed the Texas AirHogs 13-6 in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Roy Morales, Casey Gillaspie and Daniel Nava each collected multiple RBI on the night, and the offense put up 13 runs on a season-high 21 hits.

Everybody in the T-Bones starting lineup recorded at least one hit on the night, with seven going for multi-hit games. A whopping six extra base hits by Kansas City allowed the T-Bones to pull away from the AirHogs in game one.

KC came out of the gates strong, scoring four runs in the first inning on a pair of two RBI hits, one a double by Roy Morales to get things started, and the other a single by Shawn O’Malley to add to the early lead.

The AirHogs got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but Roy Morales came through again for the T-Bones in the second, driving in two with a two-out, bases loaded double, giving him four RBI in the first two innings.

Things got uncomfortable for the T-Bones in the third, as four AirHogs came around to score, making it a one run ballgame at 6-5. It was looking all too familiar for the T-Bones as they were holding onto the slim lead. Things would stay that way until the fifth when Daniel Nava gave the T-Bones the jolt they needed with an RBI double.

KC added three more in the top of the eighth on a rocket off the bat of Casey Gillaspie that found the other side of the outfield fence. Two more runs came around to score in the ninth off of an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk by Christian Correa and Ramsey Romano.

Tommy Collier, (2-3), gave the T-Bones some much-needed depth, as he went six innings, giving up five runs – two of them earned. He struck out five on the night en route to his second win of the season.

Nathan Foriest and Jackson Lowery came in relief, giving up one run over a collective three innings of work. The T-Bones chased AirHogs starter Sean Stutzman (2-1) out of the game after 2.1 innings. He gave up six runs on ten hits while recording one strikeout.

The T-Bones , (12-14), will stay in Grand Prairie for game two of the series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Newcomer Erik Manoah (0-0) will take the mound for Kansas City. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network, http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/.
