A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a police officer on Dec. 15.
According to a news release, a 33-year-old man who lives in Kansas City, Kansas, was arrested at 1:49 p.m. Dec. 20.
The man was taken into custody in rural Miami County, Kansas, with the assistance of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, according to the news release from the Olathe Police Department, which is the host agency for a team conducting an investigation into the shooting.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, a Kansas City, Kansas, police officer was conducting a follow-up on a case near 47th and Conser Street in Overland Park, according to police.
The officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire, according to police. The officer was struck by gunfire in the arm and ballistic vest, and was taken to a hospital and later released, officials stated.
The suspect fled in a tan passenger car that was later found, with no occupants, by Kansas City, Kansas, police.
The shooting was investigated by the Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team, and the Olathe police are the host for the team.
