Storms, rain in forecast today

Scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The main threat will be hail up to quarter-size and winds that could gust up to 18 mph, the weather service said.

Today’s high will be 59, with temperatures in the 50s most of this week, according to the forecast. Temperatures will rise into the 60s on Sunday.

Additional strong to severe storms are possible Tuesday night, with hail as the primary threat, according to the weather service.

The rain will continue through Thursday, with 1 to 2 inches possible in many locations by the end of the week, the weather service said. Higher amounts are possible locally, and river flooding is possible in the region.

Today, there is a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., then rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 59 with an east wind of 9 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rai is possible.

Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms likely before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of rain between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 40, with a north wind of 3 to 6 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Tuesday, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 57 and a light north, northeast wind becoming east 5 to 9 mph in the morning, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., with a low around 43, according to the weather service, and an east northeast wind of 8 to 11 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday, there is an 80 percent chance of rain, then more rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 51 with an east northeast wind of 14 to 17 mph, gusting as high as 29 mph. Between a half and three-quarters inch of rain is likely.

Thursday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain before 1 p.m., with a high near 47, the weather service said.
