Storms may return after 7 p.m. tonight through Tuesday night for the entire region, according to the National Weather Service.
Storms will move from the southwest to the northeast, exiting the metro area Tuesday evening and areas around Kirksville, Mo., late Tuesday night, the weather service said.
Look for a dramatic change in temperatures as a cold front moves through the area tonight, dropping daytime temperatures from the 70s to the 50s.
No severe weather is expected at this time with these storms, according to the weather service.
Drier weather is expected after Tuesday night until the weekend, when the next system and accompanying storms move through, according to the weather service.
Today, Columbus Day, it will be sunny with a high near 74, the weather service said, and a northeast wind of 6 to 10 mph.
Tonight, there is a 90 percent chance of rain, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 48 with a north northeast wind of 11 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.
Tuesday, expect an 80 percent chance of occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., then a chance of showers, the weather service said. The high will be near 51 with a north wind of 10 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.
Tuesday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 43 with a northwest wind of 5 to 8 mph.
Wednesday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 62 and a west northwest wind of 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon, the weather service said.
Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 48, according to the weather service.
Thursday, it will be sunny with a high of 74.
Thursday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 61.
Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 83, the weather service said.
Friday night, skies will be partly cloudy with a low of 67, according to the weather service.
Saturday, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 83, the weather service said.
Saturday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 57, according to the weather service.
Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 71, the weather service said.
