Fleeing prisoner apprehended on 18th Street
A prisoner who stole an Andrew County, Mo., sheriff’s car and drove it into Kansas City, Kan., has been captured, according to police.
A Kansas City, Kan., police spokesman said the prisoner was apprehended in the 3000 block of North 18th Street, and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
KCK police first heard about the incident when an accident happened at 12:27 p.m. April 28 near I-635 and K-5 highway, the spokesman said.
While enroute, officers learned from dispatchers that a prisoner had stolen a patrol vehicle from an Andrew County, Mo., deputy, according to the spokesman.
The prisoner, a woman about 30 years old, was being taken to the Jackson County, Mo., jail by the Andrew County deputy, the spokesman said.
The prisoner had told the deputy that she was feeling sick, and the deputy pulled over to check the welfare of the prisoner near 72nd and I-29 Highway in Missouri, according to the spokesman.
When the deputy got out of the vehicle, the prisoner jumped over the seat and stole the deputy’s patrol vehicle, the spokesman said.
The prisoner then drove to I-635 and K-5 where she crashed the sheriff’s vehicle into a wooded area and fled on foot, the spokesman said.
KCK police set up a perimeter before catching the prisoner, according to the spokesman.
