A man was taken to a hospital after a standoff ended this morning at the Hilton Garden Inn, 5th and Minnesota, Kansas City, Kan.
Kansas City, Kan., police went to the hotel around 12:30 a.m. at the request of hotel staff on a disturbance call, according to police. The hotel manager told police there was a disturbance in one of the rooms and he wanted the person removed from the property, the spokesman said.
The man fired at police through a door when police tried to make contact with him, and a standoff ensued for several hours, police said. The officers were not injured.
During the standoff, the man fired three times at officers in the hallway, the spokesman said. The officers were not hurt, but they returned fire, the spokesman said.
Police used tear gas to get the suspect to come out, the spokesman said. A bullhorn was used to communicate with the suspect, and he responded, saying he would surrender, according to the spokesman.
He left the room and was taken into custody in the stairwell, the spokesman said.
Other residents of the hotel were moved to a safe location during the incident, police said.
The man in the standoff, who is in his 30s, had a gunshot wound, police said. The wound is not life-threatening, the spokesman said.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident, the spokesman said.
