The Southwest Power Pool ended its energy emergency alert at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.
According to an SPP social media post, SPP has determined that there is currently no emergency for the electric grid.
According to the post, because of continuing high loads and other implications of severe cold weather, the SPP remains in a period of conservative operations until 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, for the entire SPP area, which includes Kansas.
On Wednesday, the SPP energy emergency alerts were fluctuating between Level 1 and 2.
Earlier this week, it went into Level 3, and rolling power outages were implemented throughout the 14-state region to conserve energy, as temperatures were dipping below zero, energy production was less and demand was up.
Temperatures today are starting to rise into the 20s in the Kansas City area, and not as much fuel is anticipated to be needed.
Conditions could still change in the next 48 hours, according to a news release.
