Sporting Kansas City has traded Ike Opara to Minnesota United FC, according to an announcement today.
Sporting KC will receive $1 million in allocation money in exchange for the defender, including $900,000 for targeted allocation money and a potential $100,000 in future targeted allocation money, according to the announcement.
Opara, 29, has played for Sporting KC for six seasons, starting 120 of 136 appearance for the club. His record includes 15 goals, six assists and the MLS Defender of the Year title in 2017.
Opara previously played for the San Jose Earthquakes after joining the team out of Wake Forest University.
He played for the U.S. U-20 and U-23 levels before being named to the U.S. Men’s National Team in January 2018.
