Sporting KC passes on second stage of re-entry draft

Sporting Kansas City did not pick a selection in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Thursday afternoon.

Last week, the team picked a goalkeeper, Alec Kann, in the first stage of the re-entry draft.

In the draft on Thursday, Orlando City chose former New England Revolution defender Kevin Alston, while the Portland Timbers chose former Houston Dynamo defender Jermaine Taylor.

Sporting Kansas City now has 25 players under contract for the 2016 season. Former Sporting KC defender Jalil Anibaba, who was not chosen in the second stage of the re-entry draft, and other players who were not selected now become available to any MLS club on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Major League Soccer’s 2016 adidas MLS Player Combine will be from Jan. 7-12 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., followed by the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 14 in Baltimore. Sporting KC has the No. 11 pick in the first round of the SuperDraft.
