Sporting KC forward sidelined for season with ankle injury

Cameron Porter, a forward for Sporting Kansas City, is sidelined for the season after an injury today, according to a club announcement.

Porter was injured during training, suffering a broken fibula and ligament damage in his right ankle, a club spokesman stated.

He is scheduled to undergo reconstructive surgery next Tuesday at the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic of Kansas City, according to the club.

Porter, 24, has made two appearances this season for Sporting Kansas City, including a start in a 2-0 road win over the Houston Dynamo in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on June 28. From Princeton University, he has played eight matches in all competitions since joining Sporting Kansas City in July 2016, having previously spent his first two professional seasons with the Montreal Impact.
