Wednesday marks the third meeting between these two clubs in 2015. Sporting KC secured a 2-0 victory in June at Sporting Park, before falling 2-1 two months later at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. Sporting KC are coming off a 1-0 road loss to the San Jose Earthquakes last Friday, but has only one home loss (9-1-5) in 2015 heading into Wednesday’s pivotal matchup.
Colorado is also coming off a 1-0 loss in their last match. The Rapids fell to the Montreal Impact at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on October 10 on a Didier Drogba goal. Colorado is currently in last place in the Western Conference standings, but are tied for the fewest road losses in MLS (7).
Sporting KC defender Ike Opara (ruptured Achilles) and midfielder Roger Espinoza (tibial sesamoid fracture) have both been upgraded to questionable on the club’s injury report after being unavailable due to long-term injuries. Captain Matt Besler (ankle sprain), Kevin Ellis (ankle sprain), Seth Sinovic (hamstring tendinopathy) and Soni Mustivar (groin strain) are also listed as questionable for Wednesday’s match.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early on Wednesday for a special pregame ceremony.
