The American Red Cross has joined with the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police to hold a blood drive in honor of three fallen police officers in the Kansas City area.
The blood drive will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd., Overland Park, Kansas.
It will honor Johnson County Master Deputy Brandon Collins, Kansas City, Kansas, Police Detective Brad Lancaster and Kansas City, Kansas, Capt. Robert David Melton, three officers who died in the line of duty during 2016.
Detective Lancaster died on May 9, 2016; Capt. Melton on July 19, 2016; and Deputy Collins on Sept. 11, 2016.
Those who are interested in making an appointment to donate blood may go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the code “PoliceMemorial.”
A spokesman for the Red Cross said he hopes they will have a good turnout to honor the memory of the fallen police officers.
