Shooting reported outside of funeral

Unknown persons drove by and began shooting as people were entering a church for a funeral about 10:40 a.m. Friday, May 11, in the 900 block of Splitlog Avenue, according to police.

A preliminary police investigation discovered that a funeral was scheduled at this location and unknown suspects drove by and began shooting as people entered the church, a police spokesman stated in a news release.

A man was struck by the gunfire and he was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the spokesman stated.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived, according to the spokesman.

The shooting is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
