Sheriff’s Office to participate in ‘taking down DUI’ campaign

The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office plans to participate in the “Taking Down DUI” traffic enforcement campaign from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.

According to a spokesman for the Sheriff’s office, many law enforcement agencies, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, are joining in the campaign.

The New Year’s holiday period often shows an increase in the number of crashes, and at least one of the drivers often is impaired by alcohol or other drugs, the spokesman stated.

A DUI will stay with people for the rest of their lives, the Sheriff’s spokesman pointed out.

“Keep in mind that if you are going to be using any impairing substance you are putting yourself and others at risk,” Sheriff Dan Soptic said. “Don’t even think about driving impaired. Line up a ride with a sober acquaintance or other safe transportation before you go out.”
