Some storms were moving through the region around 9 a.m. Monday, including Wyandotte County.
More storms to watch will occur this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
There is potential for some of these storms to become severe, the weather service said.
The main concerns now are damaging winds, hail and moderate to heavy rain leading to flash flooding, according to the weather service. Wyandotte County is in an area of slight risk for severe storms today.
While the overall threat for tornadoes is low, a tornado or two cannot be ruled out, especially in the early phases of storm initiation this afternoon and evening, the weather service said.
While the threat of severe weather today will be highest during the afternoon and evening hours, the continuing threat of flash flooding will persist through the night, according to the weather service. Locations from southeast Kansas into central Missouri will be at the greatest risk for flash flooding. Wyandotte County is in an area of marginal risk for flash flooding.
Both the Missouri River and the Kansas River in Wyandotte County were under flood stage and below action stage on Monday morning.
Today, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4 p.m., the weather service said. There could be patchy fog before 10 a.m. The high will be near 83, with a light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning, and gusting as high as 18 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.
Tonight, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 61 with a northwest wind of 6 to 13 mph, gusting to 22 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.
Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 80 and a northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph, the weather service said.
Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 58 and a light west wind, according to the weather service.
Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 81 and a calm wind becoming west northwest around 6 mph in the morning, the weather service said.
Wednesday night, it will be clear with a low of 62, according to the weather service.
Thursday, it will be sunny with a high near 85, the weather service said.
Thursday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 67, according to the weather service.
Friday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 83, the weather service said.
Friday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with some heavy rainfall. The low will be around 65, according to the weather service.
Saturday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 77, the weather service said.
Saturday night, the low will be around 62 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.
Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 79, the weather service said.
