A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect from 6:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, until 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, according to the National Weather Service.
Also a flash flood watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday, the weather service said.
Nearby counties including Leavenworth and Johnson also are under a severe thunderstorm watch.
At 6:15 p.m., thunder could be heard to the north in Wyandotte County.
Severe storms are possible tonight along and behind a cold front.
Possible hazards will be strong winds and large hail.
Thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall are expected to develop tonight across the watch area, through Saturday morning.
From 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall, with higher amounts possible locally, the weather service said.
Residents should be very careful when driving at night. If they come across a flooded road, turn around and take another route.
