The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday for western Wyandotte County until 8:15 p.m.
Southwestern Leavenworth County and northwestern Johnson County are in the warning area.
Bonner Springs and Kansas City, Kan., are among the cities in the path of the storm.
Quarter-size hail is possible with the storm. It was sighted at 7:45 p.m. in Tonganoxie and was moving east at 15 mph. Damage to vehicles is possible.
Residents are asked to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with the storm. It may lead to flash flooding, the weather service said. Do not drive a vehicle through flooded roadways, the weather service warned.
