Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Wyandotte County

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Wyandotte County from 10:26 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. today.

At 10:25 a.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over Westwood moving northeast at 20 mph. Besides northeastern Wyandotte County, this warning is in effect for northeastern Johnson County, northwestern Jackson County and southwestern Clay County.

Ping-pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts are hazards of this storm.

People and animals may be injured if they are outdoors. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows and vehicles Expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building, the weather service said.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with the storm and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
