A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for eastern Wyandotte County until 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The thunderstorm warning was expanded to northern Wyandotte County until 5 p.m., according to the weather service.
At 3:53 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was over Merriam, moving northeast at 20 mph, the weather service said.
The storm includes possible 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, according to the weather service.
Hail damage is possible to vehicles. Wind damage is possible to roofs, siding and trees.
Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, are in the path of the storm.
The weather service advised residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for their protection.
Wyandotte County also is under a flash flood watch through 7 a.m. June 26.
