A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. today for Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.
Radar has shown a line of severe thunderstorms from near Valley Falls to Ozawkie to Lecompton, to near Lyndon, moving east at 55 mph, the weather service said.
This storm has a potential of 70 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. The storms are producing widespread wind damage across the Topeka area, the weather service said.
Residents are asked to seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.
Bonner Springs and some surrounding communities are in the path of the storm, according to the weather service.
Residents should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
