A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for west central Wyandotte County until 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents were advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
At 6:13 p.m. Tuesday, a severe thunderstorm was located over southwestern Lawrence, moving northeast at 40 mph, the weather service said.
The storm potentially includes 70 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, with possible damage to vehicles, tree damage, mobile home damage, roof damage and outbuilding damage, according to the weather service.
Locations in the path of the storm may include Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Kansas City, Kansas, Tonganoxie, Basehor, Shawnee, Lenexa and several other locations, the weather service said.
Also a tornado warning has been issued for southwestern Leavenworth County and northwestern Johnson County until 6:45 p.m. after a tornado was spotted near Lawrence, Kansas.
