Severe thunderstorm warning extended until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service has extended a severe thunderstorm warning until 8:00 p.m. in Wyandotte County.

The warning was for eastern Wyandotte County.

At 7:26 p.m. Friday, a severe thunderstorm was located near Merriam, Kansas, headed northeast at 40 mph, the weather service said.

The storm has been known for golf-ball sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts, the weather service said.

People and animals outdoors could be injured. Hail damage is possible to roofs, siding, windows and vehicles.

Those in the path of the storm are asked to find shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. Large hail and deadly lightning are possible.

A tornado watch remains in effect in Wyandotte County.
