The Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., has several featured events planned during April, according to Jack Granath, library director.
The biggest event of the month is likely to be the eighth annual Books, Blocks and Bubbles event for young children from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28, he said.
Those attending the event will get to see exhibits and information about dinosaurs from Science City, Prairie Fire and the University of Kansas Department of Paleontology, he said.
There also will be a dinosaur storytime, and children will take home a free book, he added. The event is cosponsored with the Bonner Springs School District Parents as Teachers program.
Workshop Wednesday will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, with information provided about community resources in mental health. The program is held every Wednesday, with resources to help people find jobs. The GoodWORKS Career Resource Center at GoodWill, Mental Health America, Design Benefits Group and the Bonner Springs Library are participating. The topic on April 18 will be “How to Ace an Interview,” and on April 25, “Navigating Mental Health in the Workplace.”
Granath said a grant writing workshop is coming up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the library.
In this free workshop, participants will learn where to find grants, what makes a great grant proposal and other information about grant writing. A clown school workshop is planned from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Bonner Springs City Library, he said. The free one-day workshop by the Kansas City Clowns Club will teach basic skills involved in being a clown. There is a limit of 20 persons per workshop. Local author Brendan Mathia will hold a book signing for his new book, “Vanish,” at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Bonner Springs City Library, Granath said.
The author is a recent graduate of Bonner Springs High School who was on the cusp of going to college but wanted to finish his novel first. He will speak about the book. Another author, Carey Gillam, will talk about her nonfiction book, food and farming, during a meeting of the Agri-Culture Book Club at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, 630 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs.
