Several offices closed on Memorial Day

Unified Government offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, to observe the Memorial Day holiday, according to a UG announcement.

UG offices will reopen for business at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 26.

BPU

Board of Public Utilities administrative and customer service lobby will be closed for Monday, May 25, Memorial Day, according to an announcement.

Although BPU’s business offices are closed on holidays, emergency service is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. For power emergencies, customers should call 913-573-9522. The water emergency number is 913-573-9622.

Trash pickup

Memorial Day also will have an effect on trash pickup in Kansas City, Kan., according to information from the Unified Government.

Deffenbaugh will be observing Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, as a holiday. It will not pick up residential trash or curbside recycling on May 25 in Kansas City, Kan.

Service for trash pickup and curbside recycling will be moved back one day for Kansas City, Kan., residents on the week of May 25:
Monday’s pickup will be done on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s pickup will be done on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s pickup will be done on Thursday.
Thursday’s pickup will be done on Friday.
Friday’s pickup will be done on Saturday.

Postal service
Monday, May 25, is a postal holiday, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

Federal

Memorial Day, May 25, is a federal holiday.

Kansas
Memorial Day also is a holiday for state of Kansas employees.
