Several Halloween events planned in Wyandotte County

Halloween events are planned around the Wyandotte County community.

With snow in the forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, it’s possible that some residents will go to events that are scheduled this weekend.

Here is a list of the events we’ve heard of.

Friday, Oct. 25

KCKCC to hold kids Halloween party

Kansas City Kansas Community College is inviting the families of all staff, faculty and students as well as community members to the annual KCKCC Kids Halloween Party.

The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in Lower Jewell on the KCKCC Main Campus, 7250 State Ave. The host of the event is the KCKCC Student Senate and many of the KCKCC clubs, organizations and other groups.

The night will be filled with fun and engaging activities for children up to 12 years old. Some of the activities include carnival games, candy, food, crafts, animal balloons, magic show, Kids Haunted House, trunk or treat, funnel cakes and more. This is a free event for the entire family. Saturday, Oct. 26

Rosedale Development Association, KU Medical Center to hold 10th annual Healthy Halloween event

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, the University of Kansas Medical Center and Rosedale Development Association will hold a neighborhood social Healthy Halloween event at the KU Medical Center’s Hemenway Building, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas.

The family friendly event will include games, crafts, healthy snacks, health screenings, balloon sculpting, face painting, family fitness activities, free flu shots for ages 6 and up, information booths and more. Costumes are encouraged. The event will have healthy snacks, not candy. Free parking is available in the P4 garage at KU Medical Center, or residents may ride a shuttle from Whitmore Playground at 1412 Southwest Blvd. A map is available at http://www.kumc.edu/healthy-halloween.html.

Boo Bash to be at the Bonner Library

The Bonner Springs City Library plans its seventh annual Boo Bash from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. There will be a live disc jockey, games, a haunted house, snacks and story time. Those attending may wear their costumes. For more information, see https://www.bonnerlibrary.org/.

Church plans trick-or-treat event

Casa de Alabanza Worship House, in the historic Welborn Community Church, 5217 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kansas, will hold a trick or treat on the front lawn from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The public may attend to receive candy, listen to music, enjoy food and refreshments

FOP Trunk or Treat scheduled Saturday

Wyandotte County FOP Lodge 40 is planning a Trunk or Treat from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. The family event will include games, as well as awards for the best trunk and the best costume.

Turner library plans Spooktacular on Saturday

The Turner Community Library, 831 S. 55th St., plans Spooktacular, a Halloween program, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The program is sponsored by the library and the Turner Recreation Commission. There will be a Trunk or Treat, games, entertainment, a haunted house and music. All of the library activities will be free, and the Turner Recreation Commission will cost tickets that can be pre-bought or purchased at the event.

Legends to hold Halloween on the Lawn event

The Legends Outlets will hold a Halloween on the Lawn event starting at 6 p.m. and continuing until 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1843 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. The Lawn is located near the Yard House on the west side of the shopping center.
The Halloween-themed event on The Lawn, the new outdoor gathering space at The Legends, will feature a screening of Hocus Pocus, face painting, pumpkin decorating, photo booth, goody bags, giveaways and more.

Earlier in the day, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, there will be a family safety class held at the Lawn at Legends Outlets. The Sagasu Family Martial Arts and The Legends are joining to sponsor a safety class in support of Safehome and the iCare Movement. The class, designed for families with children ages 6 years old and up, will include safety games, tips for creating a family plan, self-defense classes and bonding. Families who attend are encouraged to make a $10 donation at the door, which will directly benefit Safehome.

Monday, Oct. 28

Spooktacular celebration at West Wyandotte Library

The Spooktacular Halloween celebration at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 in the auditorium area. Storyteller Will Stuck will present “Not-So-Scary Stories.” The family friendly ghost stories are geared to children and teens.

Wednesday, Oct. 30

Church plans Trunk or Treat

Grinter Chapel United Methodist Church, 7819 Swartz Road, will have a Halloween Trunk or Treat event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. Besides a trunk or treat, they will serve hot dogs, while supplies last.

Program planned on haunted houses

A program on haunted houses in Kansas City will be presented by Becky Ray of Paranormal Activity Investigators, from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the South Branch Library, Conference Room A, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. This program is for adults.

Trunk or Treat at the Main Library

A Halloween Trunk or Treat will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The trunk or treat is scheduled to be in the library’s back parking lot, off Ann Avenue. There will be crafts, storytime, car trunks full of candy and more. All ages are welcome, and costumes are encouraged.

Thursday, Oct. 31

Trunk or Treat at recreation centers

Trunk or Treat and Halloween parties are planned on Thursday, Oct. 31, at Kansas City, Kansas recreation centers.

Children who are participating should be accompanied by an adult, and costumes are encouraged.

The events will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at these community centers:
• Armourdale Community Center, 730 Osage, Kansas City, Kansas;
• Beatrice L. Lee Community Center, 1210 N. 10th St., Kansas City, Kansas;
• Bethany Community Center, 1120 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kansas;
• Eisenhower Community Center, 2901 N. 72nd St, Kansas City, Kansas;

• Joe E. Amayo Argentine Community Center, 2810 Metropolitan Ave., Kansas City, Kansas; and
• Patricia Diane Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kansas.

Trunk or Treat at the Alcott Arts Center

The Alcott Arts Center, 150 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will have a Trunk or Treat event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Entertainment will include face painting, posters by artist Darryl Woods and volunteers. The free event is outdoors and open to the public.
