Second victim dies from shooting on North Mill Street

A second victim has died from her injuries in a shooting on Wednesday, July 10, at 81 N. Mill Street, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman.

Lachell Day, 42, has died from her injuries, the spokesman stated. She was a resident of Kansas City, Kansas.

Dennis Edwards, the owner of the Edwards Corner Market and Deli at that address, was killed in the shooting.

Police stated that officers were dispatched to 81 North Mill St. at 3:08 p.m. July 10 on a shooting call.

When officers arrived, they saw a woman inside the market who appeared to be deceased, according to the spokesman.

As they entered, the suspect appeared and pointed a handgun at the officers, police spokesman stated. Officers fired at the suspect and withdrew from the market to take cover, according to the spokesman.

After two hours of negotiations, the suspect was taken into custody with a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital, the spokesman stated.

When officers cleared the store, they found one man dead from gunshot wounds and a female victim in critical condition.

The case is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

  1. Such a terrible thing to happen to such a nice man. Dennis was a good friend to the city. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
