Second Donnelly Talks event to deal with Pope Francis’ environmental writings

After a successful inaugural event this spring, Donnelly Talks will return to Donnelly College on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Monsignor Stuart Swetland, Donnelly president, will co-host the second talk in the series — entitled “Answering Pope Francis’ Call on the Environment” — with Rabbi Moti Rieber of Kansas Interfaith Power and Light. The co-hosts will use Pope Francis’ recent encyclical, Laudato Si’, as framework for the conversation on the changing climate.

“Environmental justice is one of the most important issues of our time, yet this is not a new conversation in the church,” Monsignor Swetland said. “This encyclical serves as an important call to action — one that will provide for engaging conversation between Rabbi Rieber, myself and the community at Donnelly Talks.”

This free, thought-provoking Donnelly Talks event is open to the public and will be held in the college’s Community Event Center beginning at 7 p.m. Those interested should send in their reservations to [email protected] by Sept. 23.
